wordpress wordpress wordpress

I’ve been using wordpress for over 4 years now.. It has allowed me to make a living… but I’m starting to feel like it’s not always “the right choice” I can’t tell you how many blogs/sites I have done taking the extra time to create custom panels/widgets just to find myself having the client call me every time they want something changed… Then there is the thing wordpress is so well known for.. PLUGINS… yeah great there is an archive of over a thousand plugins that can do almost anything you want.. downfall as a designer, your client installs every plugin they can come across, bogging down the speed of the site not to mention the amount of ugly it can throws into the sidebar.. Needless to say I’m looking into a few other CMS options for small sites.. maybe even some custom solutions :-) and I will be glad to share once come up with a final decision.
That’s my .02 … With that said I still think WordPress has it’s place… and is an amazing piece of software.

Yeah, I’ve always wondered if you need to add something in the contract about modifications (especially when they start jumping in there and adding all kinds of plugins). At some point, you have to cut the string I think – the question is when – and how that would affect repeat business or even recommendations. Have you ever thought of using something like CushyCMS? “Light” CMSes like that look very interesting, but I’d be worried about what would happen if they closed shop.
in my contracts I usually state that after the project is done to the “terms” anything else is a flat hr rate.. so it can work out ok.. but still that defeats the purpose of building it with a backend… Even if I educate a client they do not use it enough they end up forgetting how to make changes.. O well
Yeah I’ve looked into those, I’m more a fan of self hosted projects for that reason.. also it confuses people of why they are paying “hosting’ but having another site they have to log into… luckily we live in the day in age the web is moving rapidly.. (also a downfall) Adobe is working on a pretty cool looking CMS I’m excited to find out more about.. they have a video over yonder http://cs5launch.adobe.com/?PID=2159997
Hmmm… The Adobe CMS looks very interesting indeed.
Actually, it reminds me a lot of LightCMS – especially with the pricing model (http://businesscatalyst.com/pricing/designer).
good call man.. yeah I’m looking into trying http://www.getpixie.co.uk/ for some smaller projects. but have not had the chance yet
melody.
that’s built off typePad… that’s like selling my soul for a doughnut… whatever that means
oh, and i believe WordPress is the best BLOGGING web app out there… but for CMS… probably not.
I would be no where without wordpress.
