min. A free WordPress minimal theme

min free minimal wordpress theme 560x390

Min is a free WordPress theme I created. No bells and whistles, just simple clean and to the point. It has two widgetized footer areas to handle navigation or anything else you feel like sticking in there. Make sure you set your media upload to 560px wide to fit snug in the post area.

Demo | Download

I have tested it on the latest beta of WordPress 3.1

I really like it. You could probably make some extra cash if you made a tumblr version as well.

    But no HTML5?

Loving this, and have already ported over. Would love an option to have a black background, if at all possible (I tried playing with the stylesheets this morning myself, but only ended up butchering things!).

Either way though, gorgeous in its simplicity.

thanks! yeah I plan on doing a dark version as well.

When you said minimal you mean it. This theme is super
clean and simple. Great work, the code looks good!

    • Jared January 9, 2011 at 12:49 pm #

Thanks AJ. I believe in keeping things to the point with no distraction.. I also think the code is just as important

  9. Tan The Man January 9, 2011 at 4:08 pm #

Like it. But the grey font color can be hard to read for
    those of us without 20/20.

    • Jared January 9, 2011 at 5:28 pm #

I’m color blind and wear glasses… I see it fine :-) you cam always change the the color to whatever your heart desires in the CSS

  18. Jacob September 5, 2011 at 1:03 pm #

Very nice work. I searched quite a time for a theme that was really minimal and you did it :)
Do you distribute this theme under some sort of license? I would like to translate some parts for my personal website (Dutch).

    • Jared September 5, 2011 at 1:07 pm #

it’s GPL so do what you want with it :-)

  19. Kat November 1, 2011 at 12:25 am #

Excellent theme. I love the minimalist look. I’m trying it out now on my blog. It’s fun to get rid of all the extras on the sidebar. Thanks.

  20. Jason December 8, 2011 at 7:28 am #

    Hey Jared, great theme!

I know this will sound mad but how would I go about moving the sidebar back up to a more default location on the right of the page? I’ve found that I can move it about by moving the line

up in the index.php file but I can’t seem to see where I would change the sidebars from being footer only.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    • Jared December 8, 2011 at 7:49 am #

sorry man it’s just not designed to have a sidebar..

      • Jason December 8, 2011 at 11:04 am #

Cool.. no worries and thanks for replying :)

  21. Camila January 5, 2012 at 3:36 pm #

Hi. My English is very bad. I fail to appear at the end of the page links to other pages “About” “free stuff” “News”. You know why? You know how to fix it? Anyway, your theme is great!!

  22. clozed2u January 15, 2012 at 2:05 pm #

I love this theme. but please convert it to HTML5. Thanks a lot :)

    • Jared January 15, 2012 at 9:04 pm #

thanks! there would be no real reason to convert it to html5..

      • Chantal April 19, 2012 at 3:02 am #

Why not? This is an ideal theme to make it responsive by default. My 2 cents…

  23. gyubok January 22, 2012 at 8:20 pm #

This theme is amazing, JUST the one I was looking for!

One question tho.. how do i add the bottom section like you did? – About me, Categories, Pages, etc. Can I also add Twitter feed there?

    • Jared January 23, 2012 at 6:33 am #

thanks yo, thats the widget section.. so go to widgets in your admin and drag whatever you want in there.

  24. Collin January 24, 2012 at 7:45 am #

Looks like a great way to de-clutter a site. Does this allow for any sort of menu or sidebar items?

    • Jared January 24, 2012 at 8:42 am #

just through the widgetized area in the footer

  25. Mixi February 6, 2012 at 4:51 pm #

Hey, great theme! I am trying to remove the comments from pages using the usual screen options and then uncheck “allow comments” but they are still there? Do you have any idea how to do that?

    • Jared February 6, 2012 at 9:32 pm #

look in the single.php file for comments and delete it :-)

  26. Robert February 8, 2012 at 8:11 am #

    Hello Jared,

I like your theme, at present I try to change the posts
through a page content with the wp e-commerce plugin.

Do you have an idea how I can realize it ?

    Thx for your reply.
    Robert

    • Jared February 8, 2012 at 9:01 am #

thanks! the theme is not designed to be a e-commerce site, just a simple fun blog :-)

  27. Noell February 13, 2012 at 4:39 pm #

Really nice job with the theme! I love the super clean feel and whole “Let’s focus on the content” vibe. Well done :)

Great job and thank you !

  29. christine k April 1, 2012 at 3:06 am #

    • Jared April 1, 2012 at 4:07 pm #

  30. Eric April 3, 2012 at 5:04 pm #

Hey, thinking about using wordpress on my site but wanted to use tumult hype to make an animated html5 heading. Does this theme allow you to use a custom heading? The one I’m working on is 720px wide and 582px high. Would love to have my heading and this blog format right below. Thanks!

    • Jared April 3, 2012 at 5:16 pm #

no, what you see is what you get, but you could easily add what you need with a little html knowledge in the header.php file

  31. Jen April 16, 2012 at 6:39 pm #

Hi! I love your theme! It’s so slick and modern :) I wanted to ask if you could give me a tip on how to change the blog title to a logo. Thank you!

  32. Antonator April 22, 2012 at 11:27 pm #

Really nice minimal! I’d like to use this in the future.

Let the issue. I wasn’t able to see the “reply to comment”. How can I enable it?

    My WordPress is 3.3.1.

    • Jared April 23, 2012 at 8:45 am #

at the time i built this I did not plan on having threaded comments (which gives the reply link) there may be a update coming soon :-)

      • Antonator April 23, 2012 at 9:25 am #

Thanks for clarified this. Because I thought that doing anything wrong. I will follow the news, because happy to enjoy your «min».

  33. fvr April 25, 2012 at 4:28 am #

I love it and would sincerely use it for my film blog, but I think that the shades of gray makes it a bit hard to read, when you’ve got a review of more than 1000 words on.
If you could make it more contrast maybe ?! I dunno.
Also the links need to stand out in a different color or maybe as bold or italics (the latter would feel more elegant), because I like to add 20+ links in my body.
Otherwise, I love the way it’s simple and clean cut.
Again, I would definitely use it for something intellectual as a film review blog.

    • Jared April 25, 2012 at 10:29 am #

thanks, you can just change the color to your liking with some simple css

  34. Helle Krogh May 2, 2012 at 9:13 am #

iLike. But could really use this design WITH som social media icons :D

  35. Hamish McCaron May 11, 2012 at 11:31 pm #

    Love this Theme!

  36. Hamish McCaron May 11, 2012 at 11:34 pm #

Just one nit. the thing I like best obviously is this theme’s simplicity, but I hate having to scroll to the bottom for navigation. seems a little in opposition to the overall effect. But, it is free and it looks great so, bottom line…. Thanks for sharing your work!

  37. Andy Hawkins May 12, 2012 at 1:15 am #

Hey Jared, loving the min theme but would like to know if its possible to add an image to the header that would sit behind the text?

    • Jared May 12, 2012 at 12:18 pm #

Yo Andy, I decided to not make a header image area in the effort to keep it as minimal as possible and keep the content as key

  38. d i l i p May 17, 2012 at 12:44 am #

Hi Jared, lovely theme! I am thinking of using your theme for my site. I have one question though. Once you are inside a blog post, say for eg., “Only text styles,” (from the Min demo), how does a user go to the previous or the next post? The link (previous post/newer post) seems to be missing. Would copying section from index.php to single.php do the trick? I am not a web designer and don’t have much knowledge of all these things. Thanks in advance for any help.

    • d i l i p May 17, 2012 at 12:49 am #

Sorry, the full comment didn’t go through. Please read “would copying section” as – Would copying (div class=”pagination clearfix”) section from index.php to single.php do the trick”.
