The Ugly truth about my tattoo

When I was 19 I went in for my second tattoo… or was it my third….. I had been obsessed over the band Cursive since I heard “Downhill Racers” from their first release “Such Blinding Stars for Starving Eyes” back in 1997. The release of Ugly Organ was groundbreaking for me. I remember going on a 12 hour road trip and listened to the whole thing on repeat. It was not even their lyrics, but their way of structuring a song that kept me listening.
At the time I was seriously perusing a life path in music, and wanted to “brand” myself as such. So how better to do that then permanently inking myself with my favorite album cover on my arm. Did I mention I was 19? I don’t regret it.. But I usually don’t tell people its an album cover, just a “organ” or “piano” because “I like music”. To bad every album since The Ugly Organ has sucked.

I don’t think I really like any of the tattoos I got before 22.
For your next show and tell, I want to see the “mom” tattoo. ;)
I’m not sure how many people will want to see my “fanny”….
PWN!
AWESOME!
EPIC!
HAWT!
that does not even make sense… <3 you
It is indeed a solid album. I still enjoy it to this day and share sentiments that they haven’t quite produced anything like it.
Lyrically, the album probably conflicts with a lot of your own personal beliefs, mine as well, as it’s pretty apparent how cynical and jaded Tim Kasher is towards faith in God and the church. It’s a very dark album, and the lyrics reflect the atmosphere of the music perfectly.
With that said, your tattoo is a testament to where you were at in life (mainly, just admiring the musicianship of the album), as they are for most people :)
agree, probably a good thing Happy Hollow was not out at the time.. that’s where lyrically they went way over board on being outspoken.
i already knew this story cuz we’re BFFs.
I didn’t know the story.
Therefore, we must not be BFFs.
Q.E.D.
That makes me sad.
I still remember the day that you got that!
